xmas prank

So okay, I admit I am still not over the xmas holidays that
we spent in pinas. Hence, another xmas in pinas kwento.

 

I had originally bought a mickey mouse t-shirt for my
nephew, keith. I did not anticipate how
big he’s grown. When I saw him I knew
that shirt would not fit him. Before I
had the chance to buy a new gift, keith had already inspected the wrapped
package. He guessed that it might be a
shirt. To add a bit of excitement I told
him that what was inside are a couple of underwears, a pink and orange
pair. Keith was very upset. He could not understand why I would buy him
underwears when:

 

  1. he
         said he had loads of them
  2. the
         colors are all wrong
  3. he
         wanted a toy and according to him, knowing that he’s a kid must have made
         it obvious that he wanted a toy

 

my answers to him were:

 

  1. everybody
         can’t get enough of underwears. The
         more the merrier. I also said that I wanted to give him something
         personal, he he.
  2. I told
         him pink is in, and that real men wear pink
  3. For
         the last excuse, I told him that not having a kid of my own made it hard
         for me to realize that all kids want toys

 

You can just imagine how sulky he would get each time the
topic of xmas presents arose. He knew I
loved him dearly, that’s why the underwear gift was a real puzzle to him. Of course, I bought him what he really
wanted, a ziod thing, the lion one. But
I was not gonna give the secret up so easily.

 

Xmas eve, when all was opening presents, I gave him my “new”
present, still I maintained the underwear theme, hehe, I told him I just got
him a bigger pair.

 

He was not enthused to open the gift. Who would be?

 

We were all encouraging him to tear the wrapper apart and
just open my gift. He did so without any
trace of excitement in his face. But
viola! What he saw inside the box was
what he really wanted after all.

 

After the presents had been opened, he told me:

 

“i knew you were joking all along.”

 

Yeah right.

 

He he.

back from pinas

My first entry this year. While it seemed that 2006 just passed us by in a hurry, I am happy to
say that the year that was, was a good one to me and to my family.

 

As many of you know, allan and I went back home to pinas to
celebrate xmas and new year with our loved ones. It was hurried and we had people to meet
left, right and center. We barely had
time to ourselves. Once again, meeting
friends proved to be impossible, well with the exception of dona and gilay who
went to visit me at home. Visiting
shopping malls in manila was in our list of things to do but was shugged to the
list of things we failed to do. It was
just too hectic.

 

Most of our time was spent with family.

 

So, you ask, how was pinas… expensive as usual. That was my main complaint. It seemed like wads [ohooo] of cash flew off
of my hands each time we left the house. I have nothing new to show off for, except for a measly tag3 magic sing
chip. The rest were spent for gifts and
for pamasko’s.

 

I do miss pinas and wish I were still there. But we went back to reality on the 3rd
of January. During my stay in pinas, I
hardly had time to check my mails. I did
once only to find work waiting for me in my email. Upon arrival to Udon, allan and I decided
that I should take 4 more days of leave and just take things slow. After all, isn’t is just after a holiday that
you feel the need to have another one? But, that 4 days is coming to its end
and I must once again face the stress at work and the many lesson plans that I
need to make and check.

 

The house only has allan and me as its occupants. Compared to the 13 people who tried to fit in
my parents’ house, this is definitely a lonelier place to be in. No more were the children’s shrills and
laughter, no more kids asking me for some change so they and their friends could have one ice candy
each. Missed are the days when you wake
to the smell of hotdogs, sunny side up eggs, sinangag and coffee. Same goes for my papa’s jokes that were all well
thought of [case in point: ano ang tawag sa lomi nap anis? Answer: loma]

 

It saddens me to think that it will once again take years
before we are all in one room. My second
brother and I are back in

Thailand

,
our eldest brother is bound for

New
  Zealand

, the kids are growing up so fast
that the next time we meet, we might have to beg them to squeeze some time for
us amid their hectic teenage life.

 

Ah, 2007. I wonder
what awaits us all.
